Apple and cinnamon jam without a gram of sugar, very delicious!
Apple and cinnamon jam is an explosion of sweet and spicy flavors that makes every breakfast a real pleasure.
If you’re looking for a healthier alternative to traditional sugar-filled jam, you’re in the right place.
This recipe will guide you step by step to prepare a delicious sugar-free jam, perfect for spreading on toast, cookies or even to accompany cheeses.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg apples (preferably sweet varieties such as Golden Delicious or Fuji)
- Juice of 2 lemons
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon powder
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup of water
Preparation
- Prepare the apples: Wash the apples carefully under running water. Peel them and remove the seeds. Cut them into similar sized cubes to ensure even cooking.
- Cooking: Place the apple cubes in a large pot along with the water and lemon juice. Turn the heat on to medium heat and bring everything to a boil.
- Add the spices: Once the apples have started to boil, add the cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix well and reduce heat. Cook over low heat for about 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and turn into a kind of compote.
- Mash the apples: When the apples are soft enough to mash easily with a fork, turn off the heat and use a potato masher or fork to mash the apples until smooth.
- Reduce: Return the pot to low heat and continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the jam thickens to the desired consistency. This should take approximately another 15-20 minutes.
- Cool and store: Once the desired consistency is reached, remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. Transfer the still hot jam into sterilized glass jars and seal them tightly. Let cool completely to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator.
Tips
- Shake the jam well before using to ensure even mixing of the ingredients.
- Store jars in a cool, dark place to extend their shelf life.
- Enjoy this sugar-free apple and cinnamon jam with your breakfasts or as an accompaniment to cheese for approximately two weeks in the refrigerator.
This sugar-free jam is a delight to enjoy on a slice of toast in the morning or as an accompaniment to mature cheeses.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
