6 Magical Tips for Descaling and Whitening Toilets Naturally
Is the bottom of your toilet dark in color and no matter how much you scrub, it doesn’t come off? Limescale, when in excess, may cause a buildup of tartar that leaves unsightly orange, brown or yellowish stains in your toilet. The color varies depending on the minerals most present in the water in your pipes, mainly calcium and magnesium. Here are 6 tips for finding neatness and cleanliness at the bottom of your toilet bowl.
1 – CITRIC ACID
Of course, its name can be scary! However, do not fear for the earthenware of your bowl, because this vegetable acid present in mass in nature will take good care of it.
Economical and entirely biodegradable, it is a powerful anti-limescale agent. This descaling agent is also a must for descaling the coffee maker, kettle or washing machine.
Instructions
- Add 4 to 5 spoons of citric acid to a bowl of boiling water. Above all, handle it with gloves as with soda crystals.
- Then use your mixture and a sponge scraper to work wonders on the edges.
- Then pour what you have left into the bowl and leave to act for around 30 minutes. All you have to do is flush the toilet!
2 – DISHING LIQUID
Here’s another simple tip that works every time.
Instructions
- Boil hot water.
- Pour a medium amount of dishwashing liquid into the toilet bowl, then pour in the boiling water.
- Leave it on for a few hours, flush the toilet and admire the result!
You can repeat the operation until the tartar has completely disappeared.
3 – BORAX
It is an excellent product for disinfecting and whitening toilet surfaces. Although it is more aggressive than other natural remedies, it does not have a negative impact on the environment and does not release volatile compounds harmful to health.
Instructions
- Spray 1 cup of white vinegar onto the toilet surface and let it sit for 20 minutes.
- Scrub with a toothbrush and immediately add 40 grams of powdered borax.
- Make sure to use gloves and a mask. After 15 minutes, rinse with 1 liter of hot water, removing impurities with a sponge.
4 – HOT VINEGAR
More effective than white vinegar, hot vinegar!
Instructions
- Use your white vinegar again to clean your toilets.
- Heat it up.
- Add coarse salt to moisten it.
- Leave to rest for a good 5 hours or even overnight.
- Scrape (not too hard) with a wooden spatula so as not to damage it.
5 – SODA CRYSTALS
Soda crystals are also particularly effective in combating limescale in toilets and decalcifying the bottom of the heavily scaled bowl. To dissolve toilet scale, follow this easy recipe.
Instructions
- Boil 1 liter of water.
- Put on gloves before handling the soda crystals.
- In a basin, put 3 tablespoons of soda crystals.
- Pour the boiling water into the basin, mixing well with the spoon.
- Pour the mixture directly into the toilet and leave to act for at least 15 minutes.
- Brush the bottom of the bowl and flush the toilet.
6 – BAKING SODA
Instructions
- Pour baking soda into the bottom of your toilet and leave it for a few hours before scrubbing with a toilet brush.
- Flush the toilet to see the result.
