Ingredients to remove scratches from glasses

  • Warm water: Warm water is gentle enough not to cause damage to lenses or crystal coatings, but is still effective in removing dirt and debris.
  • Natural detergent: Choose a detergent that is mild and without dyes since neutral detergents do not damage the coatings of the lenses and effectively remove grease stains.
  • Microfiber: Use a very good quality microfiber flannel to dry and polish the crystals. You want to avoid rough fabrics, such as paper towels, which can cause scratches.

Procedure

  1. We start by washing our hands well to eliminate the dirt that we can transmit from our hands to the glass during cleaning.
  2. We keep our glasses under the stream of warm water as this will help loosen the dirt and dust particles, making the next step easier.
  3. We place a small amount of neutral detergent on the tip of our finger and gently rub the crystals, the front and the stems. Let’s avoid using regular soap as it may contain chemicals that are aggressive to the lenses.
  4. We rinse the lenses well with warm water to remove all the detergent. Now with the microfiber flannel we will dry the glasses and the frame with gentle movements since the microfiber will absorb moisture and prevent scratches.
  5. With the same microfiber flannel we will gently polish the lenses until they are completely dry and shiny as this will eliminate any remaining marks, scratches or stains.

Additional Tips

  • Avoid applying excessive heat, such as with a hair dryer or flame, as this can damage the lens coating and make scratches worse.
  • If the scratches are deep or if none of the above methods work, you may need to take your glasses to a professional to have them repaired or have the lenses replaced.
