6 plants that you can reproduce with a single twig and in water

By Lilia

Did you know that there are some plants that can grow in water? The vast majority of these are very well known. The good thing about doing this method is that we obtain a strong plant and we ensure that, once we transplant it, it will be a success.

A positive point is that we do not have to spend on seeds, since we reproduce the plant through stems. This can be done infinitely (depending on the season of the plant), and with it form a dream garden.

We recommend: Why you drink cane with rue every August 1st and how to prepare it

Let’s see what they are, these 6 plants:

1) Monstera or Adam’s rib

Monstera (also known as Adam’s rib or Cerimán) is a plant that we can easily reproduce. The origin comes from tropical jungles, and today they can be found from Argentina to Mexico.

To reproduce this plant, do the following:

  • Having the stem or cutting , we proceed to put it in a container with water.
  • Every 2 or 3 months, we check the plant from all sides. If it already has a large enough root, we can transplant it. This plant requires sunlight, you said, but not direct sunlight.

And that’s how easy it is to reproduce your Monstera plant. As for watering, I recommend that you do it when the surrounding soil is somewhat dry.

2) Rose

Roses are famous for having a lot of incredible colors and also have a spectacular aroma. The best way to reproduce this plant is through cuttings.

Before cutting the stem or cutting, we recommend disinfecting the scissors with alcohol. The cut has to be right in the area below the node, where the new leaves emerge.

We have to make sure that the stem or cutting has some leaves at the top. With this we ensure that, wherever we plant it, it receives the necessary nutrients.

In this way, we can leave it in the water until the leaves sprout, or you can also choose to plant them in a small pot with nutrient-rich soil. Approximately after 3 months you can see the first buds of the rose.

This one does not require great care, let’s just try to leave it indoors most of the time to avoid pests.

3) Potus

This vine has the ability to grow, to the point of reaching 2 meters. To replant it, we can reproduce it using stems, which have to be cut in the spring season.

We have to get strong stems of approximately 20 cm. We leave the stems in water and we only have to wait about 30 days or until they have a good root.

When you see that it has a good root, it is time to transplant them into a pot. We make a hole in the middle of the earth and bury the cutting. We dumped a good amount of water the first time.

Then we have to water it once a day, which we can help ourselves with a sprayer.

4) Lavender

The lavender plant is a classic that can go anywhere in our home. The perfect time to reproduce them is approximately at the beginning of autumn, pay attention to the procedure:

  • We have to cut a branch diagonally, about 30 cm.
  • Then with scissors (previously disinfected), we proceed to cut the secondary branches that it has to facilitate the emergence of roots. The length of these has to be 10 cm.
  • Then we immerse all these cuttings in water until they take root.

Before transplanting, we put enough soil in a pot, water it with plenty of water and let it rest for about 10 minutes. Then with our fingers, we make the holes where the cuttings will go.

Finally, we cover well with soil and water every day.

5) Romero

Rosemary is a multipurpose plant, which has many benefits for our body. Being an aromatic herb, it can be reproduced using a cutting or a strong stem.

The perfect season to do this work is at the end of Summer or also in Autumn, and we have the option of putting them on land or in water.

  • To begin, we cut several cuttings of approximately 15 cm.
  • Then we leave them in a jar with water, remove all the leaves and wait one night.
  • If possible, leave the bottle in a cold area, preferably near a window.
  • After a week, we will see how some begin to sprout and others do not. Already reaching the third week, the cuttings should be ready to put them in the ground.
  • We fill a pot of appropriately 15 cm with soil and fertilizer. and we make a hole in the center where we will plant the twig.

And that’s it, now it only has to be watered 2 or 3 times a day, depending on how much humidity there is in the environment.

6) Ask

This herb is used for various recipes, such as to flavor foods or in some it is used as tea.

To reproduce this plant, we have to cut pieces of the stem of the plant. But first, we make sure to disinfect the scissors well.

  • To start, we cut the healthiest stems of the grass to about 15 cm.
  • Then we leave it in a jar with plenty of water.
  • At 2 weeks, we can observe how they made roots.
  • Before transplanting them, we have to make sure that the soil in the pot is very moist.
  • Then we put the stems and cover them with earth.

And that’s it, now I only give gifts 4 times a week, especially when the soil is a little dry.
