How to make homemade strawberry jam with few ingredients?

By Lesia

Preparing jam at home is a rewarding and flavorful experience. Imagine the sweet and fresh aroma of strawberries combined with the citrus touch of lemon, all of this captured in a jar of jam that you can enjoy for breakfast, in your desserts or even as a gift for your loved ones.

And the best part is that we only need three simple ingredients to make it: strawberries, sugar and lemon. So let’s put on our aprons and start cooking!

How to prepare Homemade Strawberry Jam

Prepare this delicious jam in the following way, it couldn’t be easier!:

Ingredients:

-1 kg of fresh, ripe strawberries
-750 g of sugar
-Juice of 1/2 lemon

Preparation:

  1. Wash the strawberries carefully under cold water. Remove the stems and leaves, then cut them into small pieces. The smaller the pieces, the easier it will be for them to fall apart during cooking and you will get a smoother jam.
  2. In a large pot, add the cut strawberries and sugar. Stir to make sure the strawberries are well coated in sugar. Let it rest for about 30 minutes. This will help the strawberries release their natural juices, resulting in a tastier jam.
  3. After the strawberries have rested in the sugar, place the pot over medium heat. Add the juice and zest of half a lemon to the mixture. The lemon will not only provide a refreshing touch, but will also act as a natural preservative and enhance the flavor of the strawberries.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot. Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer.
  5. Continue cooking and stirring occasionally until the jam thickens and takes on a consistency similar to that of a traditional jam. This can take around 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Check consistency:

  1. To check if the jam is ready, place a small amount on a cold plate. If a wrinkle forms on the surface when you push it with your finger, the jam is ready. If not, continue cooking and repeat the test every 5 minutes.
  2. Once the jam has reached the desired consistency, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Then fill sterilized jars with the hot jam, leaving about 1cm headspace. Close the jars tightly.
  3. Allow the jars of jam to cool to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator. The jam will thicken a bit more as it cools. It will keep in the refrigerator for several week

And there you have it! Your homemade strawberry jam is ready to be enjoyed. Spread this deliciousness on your toast, add it to your yogurts or use it as a topping for desserts. Each spoonful will be a reminder of how wonderful it is to create your own delights in the kitchen. Enjoy!
