This is the only way to remove pesticides from strawberries, but we’re all wrong!

This year, the Dirty Dozen was also published:  the EWG , an acronym for the Environmental Working Group, an American non-profit organization active in environmental protection,  has compiled a ranking of fruits and vegetables to determine the quantity of pesticides present.

Strawberries  won the gold medal and  ranked first in the Dirty Dozen 2023. Unfortunately, if they come from traditional and non-organic crops, they are treated with chemical additives, which by their very nature tend to be absorbed like sponges.

In fact, we must consider that they do not have a protective skin, therefore, nothing protects them from the attack of parasites or toxic substances.

However, it is not possible to give them up: they contain  potassium, manganese, folic acid, vitamin  C , antioxidants that are very useful for heart and skin health. In short, they are a panacea for the body.

There is only one solution: wash them thoroughly! Sure! But how can you be sure that you have removed all the contaminating residues? Shall we explain it to you?

Always wash strawberries before eating them. Don’t do it in advance! Even if you dry them very well, moisture accelerates their rotting.

That said, there are at least 3  procedures to eliminate pesticides where they are present  (we can only be sure of their absence by buying organic products or growing them ourselves!),  there are at least <>.

The first involves using  water  and  salt: dissolve a teaspoon in a warm cup and let it cool completely, then soak the strawberries for two minutes and then rinse them under running water. This solution also allows you to get rid of mosquitoes and insects.

But that’s not the only way: you can also make a mixture of  red wine  and  vinegar.  Dilute one glass of water in two and let them settle for about ten minutes. The slightly alcoholic acid solution will completely prevent the presence of toxic substances.

Finally, there is also a method for washing strawberries with water and  baking soda:  one tablespoon is enough for every litre of  water . Place the fruit in a bowl and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then rinse them one by one and remove the stem only once dry.

Remember that none of these operations are a waste of time, but an investment in your health!
