By Lesia

Lemon is a citrus fruit rich in antioxidants that can be used to season dishes or to add a sour note to desserts. Like all other fruits, lemons can rot after a certain period of time. In fact, it is difficult to keep them for a long time. They can become dull, wrinkled, and some parts can become soft. If your lemons look like this, it means they have lost their freshness and juice. Find out how to keep your lemons in good condition for up to 3 months with this trick.

To enjoy the benefits of lemon,   it should be consumed fresh. Like all fruits, this citrus fruit rots quickly. On the other hand, certain gestures will allow you to preserve your lemons for up to 3 months.

What is the trick to keeping lemons fresh for up to 3 months?

To keep a lemon fresh and juicy for up to 3 months, place it in a bowl of cold water in the refrigerator. The water helps   tighten the lemon’s skin   and preserve its juice, for up to 3 months, as long as   you change the water regularly. This way, the lemons will retain all their freshness.

Any other tips for successfully storing lemons?

If you intend to use the lemons just a few days after buying them, you can   store them at room temperature   and protect them from light. They can stay fresh   for up to a week.   On the other hand, if you don’t intend to use them quickly, it’s best to store them in airtight containers, or in zip-top freezer bags, making sure   to remove as much air as possible.   Then store them in the refrigerator, ideally at a temperature between 4 to 10°C. So you can store your lemons and retain their flavor and juice for up to a month.

If you have cut lemons, you should know that you can also save them. Simply cover the cut part with cling film to protect it from air   and prevent oxidation   and store it in the fridge.   This will keep your cut lemons fresh for a long time. However, it is advisable to consume lemons, preferably 2 or 3 days after cutting them.

Please note that lemon does not freeze. On the other hand,   you can freeze the juice or the peel.   In fact, it is possible to fill the ice cube tray with lemon juice   to keep it fresh.   When the juice cubes freeze, remove them and store them in a freezer bag that you will place in the freezer. As for the lemon zest,   take it out with a grater   and place it in an airtight freezer bag  and store it in the freezer  .

With these simple steps, you can keep your lemons, juice and zest fresh for at least a month. You will thus benefit from the benefits of this citrus fruit, which adds a tangy flavour to dishes   and also perfumes the house.
