Do you remember those times? This is what our kitchen looked like in the 70s and 80s and this is all we had in it!

In the past, there were not nearly as many options as there are today. Many new apartments were handed over with a finished kitchen and so apartments in housing estates looked like a photocopier.

And even though the design of the living room did not yet meet today’s standards, we found everything we needed in these small kitchens.

They were often associated with childhood or youth and the good times we experienced back then. Let’s take a look together at what the heart of the house – the kitchen – looked like back then and what it contained.

The typical kitchen in a socialist apartment was small and simple.

Larger apartments or houses had a corner kitchen , which was modern for the time.

Many people still fondly remember it as a very practical, no-frills kitchen cupboard in which they could store everything they needed.

And here is the typical kitchen seating.

Have you had it yet?

Some kitchens have cleverly taken into account that the lady of the house likes to rest while preparing meals or that some tasks are more comfortable when sitting down.

We had exactly such a device in our apartment.

And this is what it looked like from the inside.

Some kitchen cabinets also contained glass compartments in which precious tea sets, porcelain or glassware were stored.

Such pieces of furniture probably only exist in our grandmothers’ houses.

Do you remember these jars? What did you keep in them?

In the summer we drank liters of this water.

And that was our cutlery.

The kitchen equipment also included a whisk.

This grinder was a legend, many still use it, are you one of them?

And this grinder was perfect for both nuts and stale bread rolls.
