Growing peppers in plastic bottles is easy and does not require watering – Special method.

By Lesia

Isn’t it comforting to look at your pots of chili peppers, nurturing them from tiny seeds to vibrant plants? Today, I’m excited to share an innovative method that not only simplifies the process of growing chili peppers but also ensures minimal hassles with daily watering.

Banana-Powered Beginnings: To kick off this unique journey, we begin by harnessing the power of bananas as a rooting stimulant. The process involves cutting open ripe chili peppers to extract the seeds, which are then carefully placed on banana slices. These seed-laden banana slices serve as the foundation for our chili growing adventure.

Bottles as Containers: Our journey takes a fascinating turn with the use of 5-liter plastic bottles, creatively cut in half. The top, inverted and fitted to the bottom, creates a self-watering system. A lid, perforated and decorated with a fabric string, facilitates the transfer of water from the bottom to the top, ensuring constant humidity for our chili plants.

The Perfect Mix: Now, let’s talk about the magic inside the bottles. The soil mix consists of rice husk ash and coconut fiber, providing an ideal environment for the seedlings to thrive. Following the ingenious seed-in-banana technique covered with nutrient-rich compost, the bottles are filled and the seedlings are planted.

Brilliance in Fertilization: Five days into the growing process, we introduce black phosphate fertilizer to give our chilli plants a nutrient boost. Regular watering follows, sustaining the growth momentum. Banana slices and additional mix are placed on top, ensuring a continuous supply of essential nutrients.

Urea Power at the Base: At the bottom of each bottle, where the water resides, urea fertilizer is added to enhance overall plant nutrition. This strategic placement ensures a gradual release of nutrients, promoting consistent growth.

Growth Boost on Day 20: After 20 days, our chili plants receive another round of attention. Phosphate fertilizer and crushed eggshells/powder are introduced into the mix, improving soil fertility. As always, watering is a crucial step after each addition to ensure optimal uptake.

Vitamin B & Fish Protein Extravaganza: On day 40, we boost the well-being of our chili plants with a dose of vitamin B and fish protein fertilizer. This dynamic duo strengthens plants, promoting robust growth and a bountiful harvest.

Sustainable Maintenance: Throughout this chili growing adventure, maintaining water levels at the bottom of the bottles is key. Consistency is the name of the game, ensuring our plants receive the care needed for a prosperous future.

In conclusion, this innovative method not only simplifies the process of growing chili peppers, but also showcases the beauty of sustainable and efficient gardening. From banana-powered starts to nutrient-rich layers, our chili plants thrive in a self-sustaining ecosystem inside plastic bottles. Try it for yourself and enjoy a bountiful harvest of home-grown chili peppers. Happy gardening!
