9 Great Ideas for Using Baby Powder in Your Garden

By Lesia

Baby powder is a barrel of homemade medicine ideas. From reducing chafing to freshening up the trash can, this handy item is much more useful than protecting baby socks. Available at most stores (and for less at some dollar stores), you may want to stock up on a few bottles after you figure out how to help your garden.

This innocent looking powder is quite strong and will make everything smell a little sweeter!

1. Kiss the Ants
Get rid of picnic killers by sprinkling baby powder in front of your house. Ants don’t like this stuff, and they’ll stay away. You can also try this 3-ingredient solution.

2. Protect Plant Roots
Protect your next bouquet from root rot by coating it with baby powder. The powder protects the roots from too much moisture.

3. Cool Fido
Keep your furry friend from bringing in the stench of the outdoors by giving yourself a quick brush with baby powder. This helps remove excess oil and keeps your friend smelling fresh.

4. Take off your gloves
After a hard day’s work in the garden, it can be painful to remove sticky gloves. Next time, cover the inside with a little baby powder before use to make removal easier.

5. Keep your garden boots fresh
When your work shoes (or sneakers) start to smell, put a little baby powder in your insole. The powder will draw out the moisture, which will prevent mold and odors from forming.

6. Keep rabbits away
Try adding a little baby powder to young seeds to keep rabbits from hitting the plants. (For older plants, try garlic powder.)

7. Beetle
If Japanese beetles are infesting your garden and making a buffet of your favorite plants, sprinkle the leaves with baby powder. Love to Know suggests reapplying the baby powder after it rains until beetle season is over.

8. Keep Visitors Away at Night
Rabbits and beetles aren’t the only animals that fear this magical white powder. Raccoons and opossums will avoid their vegetables if you surround them with baby powder. The feeling of gunpowder on their paws irritates these creatures, so they stay away.

9. Coating Tools
Keep your hands free of blisters by cleaning your tools with baby powder. The powder also keeps your hands from slipping while you work.
