“Cinnamon: 5 good reasons to use this delicious spice in your garden.”

By Lesia

We love the delicious taste of cinnamon in cakes and desserts, as it wonderfully enhances the taste of apple pie, rice pudding or even savory brioche. We also know that it can find a place in our medicine cabinet to make our own home remedies, thanks to its soothing softness and its antibacterial and antiviral properties. But often what we know less is that its versatility also allows it to find all its usefulness in our gardens. So if you are curious about what it has to offer in this field, here are 6 uses of cinnamon in the garden that will make it essential in your green spaces.

Repels mosquitoes: If you like the smell of cinnamon, keep in mind that this does not apply to mosquitoes, who prefer to stay away. You can spread it on your terrace and around your garden to keep them away.
Cinnamon is the declared enemy of ants in the garden: its smell drives away ants that feel suffocated by it. In addition, it is so strong that it acts like a shield, preventing ants from sensing other food sources that may be nearby. It is therefore an excellent non-toxic repellent for you and those around you (including pets) to spread in possible passage points.
Cinnamon effectively fights fungi that develop in garden plants: if fungi are threatening your plants, you can apply cinnamon to the soil to prevent them from developing. Yes, because it is antifungal! This helps stop minor fungal problems (for a serious problem, you may need to consider another solution). It is especially ideal if you have just planted and want to protect your plants from fungi and diseases.
Helps cuttings to grow again: sometimes it is necessary to cut a plant in order to propagate and root it. If you need to do this, you can put some cinnamon on the cut stem before planting it!
In the garden, cinnamon also heals “injured” or sick plants: it can be used as a preventative against injuries and also applied to an existing wound to promote rapid healing. For example, if a leaf has dark or yellowish spots related to rot, you need to cut it off to prevent it from spreading to the whole plant. After that, you just need to apply cinnamon generously to make it heal. This way, a new healthy leaf will grow in place of the previous one. To see this trick in video, look below.
