Sugar Donuts: Soft and Delicious!

Sugar donuts are small fried cakes coated in powdered sugar, ideal for breakfast or a snack. They are easy to prepare and provide instant sweet satisfaction with every bite.

Ingredients

  • 150 ml (2/3 cup) lukewarm milk
  • 3 g (1 teaspoon) dry yeast
  • 750 g (6 cups) all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 120 g (1/2 cup) sugar
  • 300g boiled potatoes
  • 80g (5 tbsp) melted butter
  • 2 g (1 tsp) lemon zest
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Sugar (for coating)

Preparation

  1. In a bowl mix the milk with the dry yeast, set aside.
  2. In another bowl, combine the flour, boiled potatoes and sugar, mix well.
  3. Add eggs, yeast mixture and stir to combine.
  4. Add the lemon zest and the melted butter and continue to knead the dough with your hands until you obtain an elastic dough.
  5. Form a ball with the dough, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 3 hours.
  6. Transfer the dough to a work surface and roll with a pin. Use a bowl to cut out circles 8-9cm in diameter and a smaller bowl or glass to cut out the donut hole.
  7. Place each donut on a sheet of baking paper and leave to rest for 1 hour.
  8. Fry donuts in hot oil for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  9. Coat with sugar and serve.
