Losing your cell phone is always a demoralizing experience that can generate feelings of frustration. Whether it’s theft or loss of your smartphone, locating it is always possible. Whether it’s an IOS or an Android device, you can find your mobile even if it’s turned off. How ? We tell you everything, below!

Photos, videos, important files… our mobile phones contain personal information that we value very much. That said, the first thing a thief does when he gets hold of a cell phone is to turn it off. Luckily, there are ways to  locate your lost device  , even if it’s turned off.

Stolen or lost cell phone: what to do?

As a precaution, always remember your IMEI “International Mobile Equipment Identity”. In fact, IMEI is a unique identification number assigned to each smartphone. This allows you to block your mobile phone in case of permanent loss.

To find the IMEI of your Android phone, type *#06# like making a phone call and press the call icon. The number is displayed automatically.

To find your iPhone’s IMEI serial number, go to “Settings,” then “General” and click “About.”

As a first step, if you lose sight of your device, dial your phone number from another mobile device. If you forget it, the person who found it may write back to you and give it back to you. If that’s not a leak, consider changing your passwords immediately. This preventive measure is essential to protect your sensitive data.

While these reflexes are important if you lose a  smartphone  , they can sometimes prove to be insufficient to get it back. Fortunately, thanks to the development in technology, tracking a phone is now within reach. Don’t worry, this is possible even if the latter is turned off.

How to locate an Android phone even if it is turned off?

As for the Android system, mobile phones are equipped with the system application “Android Device Manager”, it can also be called “find my device”. This option will display the last location of your phone if it is stolen or lost, turned on or off. Also, it allows you to delete all your data remotely. To use it, nothing could be simpler! Go to the Find My Device site from a computer, phone, or tablet. Then, using your Gmail address, sign in to your Google account. A list of devices connected to this account will appear, choose the one you want to locate and you will see the last device location displayed. You can also choose to lock or wipe data remotely.

How to locate an Apple phone?

If you’ve lost your iPhone, an iOS feature can allow you to remotely locate and lock it to prevent others from using it. However, to track  your smartphone  you must have previously activated the “Find my iPhone” and “Send my last position” features. So, in case of loss or theft, you can simply log into iCloud, the page will display a small map showing you the location of your device. If your phone is turned off, its location can’t be tracked in real time, but you can still get the latest location of your phone. This information can, however, help you locate your iPhone.

Also, if you are unable to locate your cell phone, you can contact your carrier and provide them with your IMEI number. It will thus be able to locate the phone and lock it even when it is switched off, this will prevent the use of mobile data, the reception of phone calls and the sending of SMS. However, for confidentiality reasons, telephone operators cannot reveal detailed information to you. However, to increase your chances of finding your smartphone, consider filing a report at the police station.
