Turkish Lokma: The Best Sweet Donuts Ever!

Traditional Turkish donuts, light and fluffy on the inside, and golden on the outside. Soaked in sweet syrup and often sprinkled with nuts and icing sugar, they are served as a dessert or sweet snack. Lokma are a popular element of Turkish cuisine, valued for their mild flavor and delicate texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon of yeast
  • 1/2 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1/4 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • For the syrup
  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons of honey
  • Cardamom
  • a pinch of salt

Preparation

  1. Make the risen dough, leave to rise for 1 hour.
  2. Syrup: Mix water and sugar in a saucepan, let the sugar dissolve, cook for 5 to 10 minutes. Add the cardamom, salt, mix.
  3. Add honey. Heat vegetable oil for frying.
  4. Transfer dough to a bag and press into balls, cut with KITCHEN SCISSORS.
  5. Fry until golden brown.
  6. Roll them in syrup and serve with syrup.
