10 Natural Tips to Get Rid of Ants

We certainly loved watching them for hours in our childhood, but now that ants have invaded our home, we would like to no longer see them! Our tips for keeping them away naturally and sustainably.

1 – FRESH BASIL LEAVES 

We kill two birds with one stone with potted basil since it is as effective against ants as it is delicious in cooking and beneficial for our health. If we appreciate its flavor and smell, this is far from being the case for these hymenoptera. A few leaves placed judiciously in the path of the ants are enough to scare them away.

2 – PEPPERMINT

Peppermint essential oil is a product with a pleasant and fresh smell. It helps keep ants away from the house.

3 – BORIC ACID

Available in drugstores or pharmacies, borax or boric acid helps eliminate ants by poisoning them. To do this, boric acid bait must be placed in saucers, to be placed on the passages frequented by these insects. By swallowing this product, the ants die within a few weeks.

4 – COFFEE GROUNDS, A POWERFUL PRODUCT

Once you have identified the places through which the ants pass, spread a good layer of wet coffee grounds. It won’t take long for the ants to move away.

5 – DIATOMEA EARTH

Food diatomaceous earth (microscopic algae) is an ecological and natural insecticide. It is very effective against ants and other insects. Just sprinkle it in corners, crevices, basements and windows.

6 – CINNAMON 

This spice known for its characteristic taste and smell is also known to be a powerful natural ant repellent. Sprinkle a little in the corners of the house, on the edges of windows and at the doorstep, or place a few sticks there.

7 – LAVENDER

While the smell of lavender is something we enjoy, the same cannot be said for ants. So place branches or small bags of lavender in places where they usually go. You can also spray lavender essential oil in your interior.

8 – VINEGAR

To fight against an ant invasion, alcohol vinegar is a formidable weapon. Simply soak a sponge and use it to clean the kitchen counters. Spraying the edges of windows and doorways with vinegar is also recommended. If ants have invaded the cupboards, place a small container containing vinegar there.

9 – BLACK SOAP 

Multi-use, black soap is unconditional in the garden and at home because it is, among other things, the enemy of ants but also of mealybugs and even aphids. To permanently eliminate ants, it is necessary to dilute the black soap in boiling water according to the dosage indicated by the manufacturer, clearly on the packaging. Then simply pour this still very hot mixture onto the ant nest or colony.

10 – CHALK

Ants do not particularly like chalk. To use the latter as a repellent, you must scratch it, then spread the powder obtained on the places frequented by ants.
