7 Home Remedies to Treat Gum Disease

Gum disease results in inflammation of the gums that can progress and affect the bone that surrounds and supports the teeth. They are the consequence of the action of dental plaque bacteria, a sticky, colorless coating which is permanently deposited on the teeth.

1 – SEA SALT

Salt water is effective in reducing gum swelling and inflammation. These are the minerals present in sea salt, which helps fight infections.

Dissolve a small amount of sea salt in a cup of hot water. Gargle with a sip of the solution for 30 seconds then spit it out. Repeat this 3 times a day until the symptoms disappear.

2 – GRAPEFRUIT SEEDS

They contain an antimicrobial substance that fights inflammation and infections of the oral mucosa. A food supplement (CitroBiotic’, in health food stores) can be tried as a mouthwash or to swallow (5 drops 3 times a day in a glass of water). 

3 – TEA BAGS

If you want to cure gum diseases and infections, apply tea bags on the infected gum area.

This remedy is more effective than drinking tea because excessive consumption of tea makes your teeth discolored and stained.

1/ Dip a tea bag in hot boiling water for about 10 minutes and let it cool. 

2/ Hold the cooled tea bag on the infected area of ​​your gums for about 3 to 5 minutes . 

4 – BAKING SODA

Baking soda is an alkaline and will neutralize the acids that irritate the canker sore. It also helps kill bacteria to help the wound heal quickly. To treat a painful canker sore, try this home remedy:

 5 – SAGE

Sage kills bacteria as well as viruses and contains compounds that reduce inflammation. Steep 2 teaspoons dried sage in a covered cup of boiling water. Let cool and use as a mouthwash 2 or 3 times a day.

6 – HONEY

Add a little honey. Honey has antibacterial and antiseptic properties, so you can use it to treat your infected gums. When you have brushed your teeth, knead the problem area of ​​the gums with a little honey.

Due to the high sugar content of honey, you will need to be careful not to apply too much and only put it on the gums and not on your teeth.

7 – CHAMOMILE

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, chamomile helps relieve pain and inflammation of the gums. 

1/ Prepare chamomile tea by adding 2 to 3 teaspoons of chamomile flowers to a cup of hot water. 

2/ Leave to infuse for 10 minutes. Filter and cool.

3/ You can use this tea as a mouthwash several times.
