Nail Fungus: 5 Natural Remedies to Treat It

By liliaturcin5

Do you know about onychomycosis? This is the scientific name for nail fungus, a stubborn and highly contagious condition. If you notice a different coloring, cracks or localized thickening, you may be one of the 20% of French people who suffer from it. But don’t be alarmed! In this article, we give you 5 natural remedies to get rid of it.

1 – BAKING SODA

Ideal for combating moisture between the nails and promoting healing, baking soda has a plethora of benefits for the skin. According to a study published in Mycopathologia, it also has antifungal properties capable of fighting against the agents responsible for these infections. To benefit from it, simply immerse your feet in a basin filled with water and add 3 tablespoons of baking soda. Let your tootsies soak for 15 minutes every evening for optimal results.

2 – GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT

This is grapefruit seed extract and not grapefruit seed essential oil. You can find products with effective antifungal properties in organic stores or drugstores.

Rich in bioflavonoids, powerful antioxidants, grapefruit seed extract is known to strengthen the immune system but it can also be used topically to treat nail fungus.

Apply a few drops directly to the affected area. To be renewed at least twice a day.

3 – A LITTLE LEMON JUICE

Its citric acid makes it a great enemy of nail fungus. In fact, these components give it an antifungal and antiseptic power. So, you can use it pure on the nail or soak the affected toe in this juice for 30 minutes before rinsing.

4 – CIDER VINEGAR

For a quick and effective treatment, we advise you to turn to this natural antiseptic, a real “exterminator”! The acidity of apple cider vinegar will have a guaranteed radical effect on your infected nail. To do this, pour 5 to 6 tablespoons of apple vinegar into a basin filled with lukewarm water and immerse your hand or foot in it for around fifteen minutes. Do not hesitate to repeat these actions morning and evening. Moreover, know that cider vinegar is also an excellent remedy against vulvar mycosis – also called vaginal mycosis (to be included in the diet).

5 – TEA TREE ESSENTIAL OIL

Twice a week, after bathing or showering, apply a drop of tea tree essential oil directly to your damaged nails and to the skin around the nail.
