5 Plants to Keep Mosquitoes Away

By liliaturcin5

What’s more annoying than being bitten by mosquitoes? There are many repellents sold commercially based on citronella. Know that it is possible to keep them away using certain plants.
Above all, lemongrass-scented plants are the most effective in repelling mosquitoes, but there are also other plants with strong odors which have a repellent power against insects.

1 – Dalmatian pyrethrum

This plant belongs to the asteracea family. It is an insect repellent plant that repels not only mosquitoes but also flies and wasps for example. You should know that this plant also exists in powder form: you can place it at the entrance to your windows to create a natural anti-insect barrier. Dalmatian pyrethrum attacks the nervous system of certain insects, particularly mosquitoes. Very effective !

2 – Absinthe

Wormwood is a useful plant for fighting insects, particularly wasps and mosquitoes. It is possible to plant it, but also then to dry its leaves and flowers to constitute an indoor insecticide. The smell is unbearable for the insects which will quickly flee the places where the wormwood is found.

3 – Lemongrass

The best known of all mosquito repellent plants, lemongrass, especially in the form of essential oil, has a scientifically proven repellent action against insects.

4 – Lavender

The very characteristic smell of lavender is not appreciated by insects, particularly mosquitoes and wasps. On the other hand, you can use it, dry, to perfume your cupboards and scare away moths.

5 – Ornamental tobacco

The flowers of ornamental tobacco which open mainly in the evening, for certain species, give off a very fragrant scent in the evening. This strong odor acts as a repellent since insects, particularly mosquitoes, do not like it.
