Lemon will become your secret weapon for cleaning, shine and so many other things…

Lemon is good in pie but not only that! At home, lemon is a real secret weapon for more ecological – and economical – cleaning. We give you 14 good reasons to try lemon.

1 – EMBELLISH LEATHER WITH LEMON

To rejuvenate a tarnished leather sofa, the best solution is to use lemon. Since it is a natural product, it does not emit any chemical particles into the air, unlike most industrial products. To maintain the leather sofa, whip an egg white and mix with lemon juice and rub the leather with this mixture to make it look new. However, it is advisable to apply a cosmetic cream or milk after cleaning to moisturize the leather.

2 – TO DEODORIZE AND DETACH PLASTIC BOXES

Rinsing with lemon juice or rubbing it on the walls is more than enough to eliminate bad odors in a plastic box. And in case of tomato sauce stains, it can also come in handy! To remove stubborn stains, scrub with lemon juice and baking soda. If possible, leave it on for a few hours in the sun and/or overnight before rinsing. Flawless !

3 – LEMON AND THE PIPES

Do your pipes need a little unblocking? Forget your chemicals! Prepare a mixture with two thirds lemon juice and one third baking soda

We rub, we rub with the lemon!

4 – TO CLEAN THE TILE JOINTS

Tile joints in the bathroom and kitchen often tend to darken. To clean them and restore their whiteness, it is possible to use a solution based on lemon juice.

5 – DISINFECTANT FOR THE CUTTING BOARD

Many germs can accumulate on the cutting board. Simply rub half a lemon on it with a pinch of salt to thoroughly clean and disinfect it. Lemon has very powerful antiseptic properties.

6 – LEMON FOR WHITENING LAUNDRY

White linen tends to fade and gray over time. Lemon will allow you to restore its whiteness, without having to use bleach. In your laundry drawer, for rinsing, add the juice of a lemon. Your laundry will come out vibrant! To make this even more effective, do it on a nice day and air dry your laundry in the sun. The combination of lemon and sun accentuates the whitening effect. Another effective tip is to soak your laundry before washing it in the machine in a basin of cold water with a glass of lemon juice and a good tablespoon of baking soda.

7 – CLEAN THE INSIDE OF YOUR OVEN WITH LEMON

Nightmare in the kitchen… The inside of the oven! To help us scrub (there’s no miracle either), soak a sponge with lemon juice and hot water then scrub the walls. You will see that we are still close to a miracle

8 – LEMON STRONGER THAN RUST

A mixture of water, salt and lemon juice can remove rust stains from fabric. Leave it on for thirty minutes then rub. To remove oxidation stains on silverware or steel, apply lemon juice directly to the stains and leave to act for several minutes, the lemon acid will dissolve the oxidized material!

9 – LEMON AND WOODEN FURNITURE

Has your wooden sideboard been looking dull for some time? Guess who will help you? The lemon ! Him again. Prepare a mixture with two thirds olive oil and one third lemon juice. With a soft cloth, apply your mixture to your furniture which has now regained its former splendor and shine!

10 – LEMON TO CLEAN THE BARBECUE GRID

For your grills covered with burnt fat, sprinkle some coarse salt (which will provide an abrasive effect) and rub with half a lemon on the flesh side (to melt the fat thanks to the acid effect). Rinse carefully and you have a clean grill ready for your future grilling!

11 – WASH THE WINDOWS WITH LEMON

Fingerprints, dog saliva, traces of humidity, dirt… windows easily accumulate unsightly traces which must be cleaned to make them shine.

In order to obtain impeccable clarity of the windows, it is possible to clean with lemon. For that :

  • Spray the glass surface with a solution of 2 tablespoons lemon juice, ½ cup white vinegar and 1 quart hot water.
  • Polish and wipe.
  • This is a natural method for obtaining impeccable results. It can also be applied to mirrors in the home.

12 – KEEP AWAY LITTLE BEASTS

There are some who don’t like it. The ants will move on if you place lemon peels in their path. You can use a few drops of essential oil if you prefer. Moths and mosquitoes are not fond of it either. Place lemons studded with cloves in the rooms, this will also make a pretty decoration. Also try rubbing your skin with the zest (which contains the essential oil) of the lemon. Mosquitoes should leave you alone.

13 – GIVE A SECOND LIFE TO YOUR SPONGE

A true cornerstone of household cleaning, the sponge tends to get dirty quickly. What if, instead of throwing it in the trash, you gave it a second life?

How ? By soaking it overnight in a container containing lemon juice mixed with hot water. When you wake up the next day, all you have to do is wring out the sponge and let it dry so that it is like new!

14 – POLISHING THE COPPER

To keep copper objects their flamboyant color, use lemon to rub directly on the dirty parts. If the copper object is really very dull, use this method by first covering its surface with coarse salt.
