4 Effective Tips for Cleaning the Dirtiest Socks

By liliaturcin5

Staying at home has its benefits, like not having to use shoes. You can stay all day in slippers or sandals, or barefoot. The only downside is that the socks turn black and are difficult to wash.

In this article, we offer you 4 eco-friendly methods that whiten dirty socks and make them look like new.

1 – LEMON JUICE

Lemon juice contains natural acids which help maintain the original whiteness of all types of fabrics.

Its anti-bacterial compounds help control bad odors and leave a fresh aroma in the fabrics to which they are applied.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup lemon juice (250 ml).
  • 1 liter of lukewarm water.

Instructions

  1. Add fresh lemon juice to a container containing a liter of lukewarm water, immerse your socks in it and let them soak for 45 minutes.
  2. Then rinse them as usual, then put them to dry in the sun.

2 – WHITE VINEGAR

This multi-use product is ecological and biodegradable. It is the stain remover par excellence that is suitable for household cleaning to make the entire house shine in complete safety. It can be an alternative to bleach, which although effective for cleaning white laundry, remains irritating to the respiratory tract. In addition, vinegar removes stains, disinfects, eliminates mold, deodorizes, neutralizes bad odors and softens laundry in the same way as industrial softeners, while respecting the environment.

For your dirty socks, it will be very effective in reviving their whiteness thanks to its astringent and whitening action. To do this, immerse your socks in a basin filled with a cup of white vinegar and half a liter of water. Leave it on for 40 minutes before rubbing it. Then add liquid soap or soapy water made from Marseille soap or other natural detergent to complete the cleaning and leave to dry in the open air.

3 – LAUNDRY SOAP

Instructions

  1. Wet socks are well soaped with brown soap.
  2. Leave overnight in normal packaging or in an empty container.
  3. In the morning we wash and rinse.

4 – SALT WATER

A warm salt water solution will help you remove sweat and mold stains that may appear on the fabric of your socks.

Ingredients

  • 2 spoonfuls of salt (20 g).
  • 1 liter of lukewarm water.

Instructions

  1. Pour the two spoonfuls of salt into a liter of water. Then mix everything well so that the salt dissolves properly. Dip the socks in this solution.
  2. If your socks are really dirty, you can add a little detergent to the mixture for better results.
  3. Avoid using water that is too hot, as it can affect the elasticity of your garment.
