8 Home Methods to Perfectly Clean Burnt Iron

It is important to maintain it regularly to avoid staining your clothes. Thanks to these few tips, you will no longer have to worry about your white blouses!

1 – BAKING SODA

Wipe with a cloth dampened with a solution of hot water and baking soda (count about one tablespoon of baking soda for one coffee cup of hot water). Finally, run a slightly damp sponge over your iron to remove the mixture.

2 – WHITE VINEGAR

The great ally of ecological household cleaning is quite useful for removing stains that form on the iron. The acidic compounds in white vinegar make it easier to clean the iron and restore its original shine to its surface.

• Heat a small amount of white vinegar and rub it on the iron using a cloth or sponge.
• If there are burnt remains in the holes of the device, take a cotton swab, dip it in the product and rub it until it is spotless.

3 – THE SOLVENT

• Is the soleplate of your iron sticking? Apply acetone-free nail polish remover if the iron is not too clogged. Then wipe with a damp cloth.
• If your iron is clogged, do not hesitate to apply nail polish remover with acetone.

4 – WITH DEMINERALISED WATER

If your iron or steam generator is scaled, simply clean its vaporization chamber as regularly as possible with demineralized water. It is this descaling that will keep your iron or steam generator in good working order.

In fact, a scaled appliance irons much less well and risks causing dark stains on your laundry.

• To carry out effective descaling, fill the tank of your iron or steam generator as much as possible without adding anything, and especially not white vinegar which would be too stripping. If the water is too hard, you can mix it half with demineralized water.

5 – THE CLAY STONE (OR WHITE STONE)

• Before starting the major cleaning, remember to unplug your iron for maximum safety. This natural paste made from, among other things, soap flakes and rock powder, is not aggressive to the iron or to your hands.
• Impregnate a small sponge or a simple cloth with clay stone (found in DIY stores) and rub the sole of your iron before wiping.

6 – USE MARSEILLE SOAP

• Prepare a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge by soaking it in soapy water. Once the soleplate of the iron is slightly warm, rub the surface of the soleplate following the length of the iron.
• Repeat the gesture until the black mark disappears completely. Note that Marseille soap is renowned for its effectiveness in removing stains and limescale deposits.

7 – TOOTHPASTE

Cleaning the iron is possible with toothpaste. Its compounds eliminate burnt stains and leave a surface ready for use.

• Spread a little toothpaste on the cold base of the appliance and rub it with a clean cloth.
• Then turn on the steam for five minutes and let it sit.
• When it is warm, polish with a cloth and remove any remaining toothpaste.

8 – COARSE SALT

To apply this technique, you need a sheet of newspaper, on which you spread a generous quantity of coarse salt. We pass the hot soleplate several times over it, until the dirt disappears. Finally, wipe the sole with a clean cloth to remove the residue. An inexpensive and very simple tip!
