Crickets: good luck and the warning (alarm) that something is approaching

By liliaturcin5

Crickets  are very popular for their peculiar song and their constant, uninterrupted sound.

While some love it, others can’t stand it. However, most people think of it as an insect that announces good luck and its song is the warning that something is approaching.

In fact, its history dates back several thousand years when people even revered the cricket song.

His story

The history of cricket dates back to 500 BC. A time when people revered the cricket’s song and many even kept it in cages, with the purpose of listening to its song every day.

Additionally, crickets are valued as guard dogs and as natural clocks to time a good harvest.

In fact, they had a lot to do with Chinese, Japanese and Native American culture. It was a symbol of good fortune, vitality and prosperity.

What crickets represent

Let us remember that crickets lay thousands of eggs, so it coincides with popular Chinese belief. Precisely, having several children is a symbol of vitality and guaranteed success.

Even in ancient times, farmers began to prepare the fields for the spring crops, but only after hearing the song of a cricket.

According to Chinese and Japanese history, crickets were considered excellent protection by them. Their song precisely indicates when something or someone is approaching, which is why European and Middle Eastern artisans carved amulets and talismans with images of crickets. They precisely served as protection and repelled evil spirits.

However, just as few can be seen, cricket invasions also occur in many places around the world. This was the case of Argentina, in the province of Córdoba.

Cricket Invasion

It often happens that there are times of the year when there may be an invasion of these insects, this is the case in the province of Córdoba, Argentina. Just two years ago, “an invasion of crickets” took place that put local citizens on alert.

Due to this fact, a member of the Córdoba Environmental Forum declared that this massive presence of crickets is due to climatic factors. Certainly the big culprits when this happens have to do with high temperatures and high humidity.

Of course, in this context and due to the weather conditions, they served to encourage the explosion of the eggs and the appearance of more crickets.

Although it is true that the situation is not dangerous, some precautions must always be taken at home. It happens that the natural predator of crickets is the scorpion. Therefore, if there are many inside a house, it can attract scorpions or other dangerous bugs or animals.

The state of alert has to do with that danger simply as it happened in Córdoba, but when we talk about crickets let us remember the general millennial feeling that it announces good luck and its song is the warning that something is approaching.
