1. ADEQUATE LIGHT

African violets thrive in  bright, indirect light  . Remember to place them near a window facing north or east to ensure they receive the right amount of light without burning the leaves. Occasionally, you can rotate the plant for even growth.

2. CONSTANT TEMPERATURE

Maintain a constant room temperature between  18 and 24°C (65-75°F  ). Your African violets should not be exposed to drafts, sudden temperature changes or cold windowsills, as this can stress the plant.

3. ADEQUATE WATERING

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water from below by placing the pot in a saucer filled with water, allowing the roots to absorb the humidity. Also,  avoid spraying water on the leaves  , as this can cause unsightly stains.

4. MOISTURE

African violets prefer  higher humidity levels  . You can place a tray filled with water near the plants, use a humidity tray or a room humidifier to increase the humidity around them.

5. WELL DRAINING SOIL

Use  a light, well-draining potting mix  designed specifically for African violets. Good drainage is very important because it prevents root rot.

6. FERTILIZE REGULARLY

African violets are  light eaters  . To facilitate flowering, use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every  4 to 6 weeks  during the growing season (spring to early fall). Reduce or eliminate fertilizer during the winter months.

7. PRUNING AND DECAPITATION

Promptly remove wilted flowers and damaged  or yellowed leaves. This encourages the plant to invest energy in producing new flowers rather than maintaining old ones.

Wet leaves can lead to  fungal problems  . If any drops of water get on the leaves, you can gently dry them with a paper towel.
