A homemade syrup for coughs and lung mucus

By liliaturcin5

Did you know that you can make homemade cough syrup with… turnips? Yes Yes ! This is a natural grandmother’s recipe that you will like, if like me, you like natural and zero waste alternatives 🚮!!!!

Properties of turnip:

The turnip has long been considered the “poor man’s vegetable” and devalued. But since certain scientific studies [1] have highlighted its numerous health benefits, it has come back to the forefront. Indeed, it is a vegetable with anti-cancer, antiseptic, anti-aging properties… I strongly invite you to read my article on the benefits of turnips to discover in detail the benefits of turnips, both on the root, the tops and the flower, which are all edible!

What interests us here are its properties to help cure coughs and/or reduce sore throats:

It is expectorant: turnip contains sulfur which will promote the evacuation of secretions.

It is emollient: the properties of turnip help to soothe the respiratory tract and sore throat. It is therefore very interesting for fatty coughs.

It is anti-sceptical: turnips contain a high level of vitamin C, which boosts the immune system.

Turnip syrup with the well method gives a real syrup with a honeyed texture!!!

And above all, don’t hesitate to do it with your child so that they can enjoy eating it afterwards!!!

It’s super simple:

– Take a large turnip and cut off its upper part, keep the “cap” of the turnip. Hollow out the turnip with a teaspoon and fill it with powdered sugar.

Here we used 1tsp brown sugar and 1tsp organic French beet sugar – any sugar will do!

– Reposition the hat and place the turnip in the refrigerator overnight, and in the morning, your syrup is ready.

– Put the syrup in a small pot for easier use.

– Take a tablespoon of syrup up to 4 times a day and store it in the refrigerator for 7 days!

You can also replace the turnip with an onion and in this case the sugar with honey 🍯!!!
