Growing garlic at home is one of the ways to take care of your economy and the health of your family, and here we tell you what you should do.

Garlic is one of the most used foods in cooking and in typical recipes of our cuisine, so learning how to grow garlic at home can be very useful.

What is garlic and what is it used for?

It is a plant that belongs to the onion family, and its compounds contain a large amount of sulfur called allicin, which is an important factor in maintaining health. Over time, it has been recognized as a superfood that flavors food and helps us have a balanced diet.

The main properties of garlic include:

  1. Improve blood circulation.
  2. It reduces bacteria in our intestines because it is a good natural antibiotic.
  3. Strengthens the immune system.
  4. Promotes wound healing.
  5. Helps cure minor infections.
  6. Fight colds and flu.
  7. Detoxify our body.
  8. Eliminate heavy metals such as mercury or food debris that the liver cannot process.
  9. Deflate and improve our body.
  10. It unblocks the lungs and eliminates mucus.
  11. It stimulates cell renewal and fights acne.
  12. Lowers blood cholesterol levels (thanks to allicin).
  13. It stimulates stomach acid and digests food.

For people suffering from hyperthyroidism, it is recommended to avoid daily or excessive consumption, as its high iodine content can lead to complications.

How to grow garlic at home?

  • To grow garlic at home, you will need:
  • a head of garlic
  • A pot 20 cm high
  • Ground

The first thing to do is take the head of garlic and separate the cloves without peeling them.

Next, you will need to fill your pot with soil, but leave an inch between the top and the pot.

Now bury the garlic cloves 10 cm deep, keeping the tip of each clove facing up.

There should be 8cm of space between each garlic clove, so we recommend calculating the space accurately. When you’re finished, place the pot next to the window at about 15°.

When sprouts begin to appear, you can move them to a warm place and wait until the oldest leaves are dry before harvesting the garlic.

Once the flower buds are ready for use in the kitchen, remove the entire plant and allow the bulbs to dry in full sun for a few days. Finally, separate them from the leaves, wash them and store them in a cool place since you can use them in your kitchen.

It is important to remember that garlic must be peeled each time it is used and that several cloves can be used in different recipes.

Garlic is rich in vitamin E, magnesium and selenium, but be careful not to overdo it and seek advice from an expert on how much to eat. This technology will help keep your food pesticide-free.
