On lemon

The lemon tree (citrus limon) is an evergreen Indian tree, cultivated mainly in Sicily. Sensitive to cold and wind, it is necessary in our regions to cultivate it especially in pots, to protect it from cold winds and frost.

How to Grow Lemon

The best time to plant lemon, or put it in pots, is in early spring, when temperatures begin to stabilize. The soil must be soft and porous, resistant to stagnation, also because it will be watered often. At the bottom of the pot, it is advisable to put a few centimeters of expanded clay, to absorb water and avoid rot.

Repotting

Lemon repotting should be done every 2 years and placed in a larger container. If you sow, you must start from a pot with a diameter of 30 to 40 cm.

Care

Those who started by sowing will have to wet the soil until it germinates. Only then can he add fertilizer. When the plant has reached 20 cm, it can be repotted into a larger container.

Those who have already purchased a lemon tree, will only have to guarantee good care, therefore continuous and more intense irrigation in summer. The soil should always be moist.

Pruning

It should be carried out in winter, removing dry and damaged leaves.

Fertilization

Lemon should be fertilized twice a year.
