Growing  carrots  is quite simple and widespread, as they lend themselves well to being sown even on small plots. The most difficult thing is to ensure a bountiful harvest. In this article, we’ll look at a foolproof method to double your carrot harvest.

Growing carrots

Carrots are probably the most popular type of vegetable. Belonging to the Apiaceae family,  they are a source of vitamin A and other very important nutrients  . The most common are orange, but they can come in different colors, such as yellow, white and purple. In cooking, they are used both raw, without the external part, and cooked.

Excellent to eat alone, in salads, in more elaborate dishes or to prepare a good stir-fry,  carrots are a good source of fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium and magnesium  .

The properties of carrots

Growing carrots can be a fun and rewarding activity because it is quite simple and suitable even for small spaces.

They can easily be grown in the garden  , the important thing is to choose a variety adapted to the climate and soil. Carrots prefer well-drained, nutrient-rich soil.

It is important to ensure the soil is tilled and free of weeds before planting.  Once the soil is prepared, it is possible to plant the carrots  . But let’s see how to get a large quantity of carrots.

How to double your carrot harvest

Having a larger quantity of carrots is possible and also quite simple  . Usually what stops carrots from growing in greater numbers is the presence of weeds. With the method we are going to see today, the presence of weeds will be practically zero, allowing all the seeds to germinate in order to obtain more carrots.

In our country, outdoor sowing takes place in March. You must first prepare the ground. It is essential to have  well-fertilized soil  , composed of a substrate for  vegetables  and flowers mixed with wood ash. The ash will help fertilize and ward off pests.

Mix the soil well and create a small raised bed.  All you will need is a pallet or pallet  to place on top of the mound you have just created. Make sure to press down on the pallet, then fill all the holes with substrate.

Then prepare  strips of toilet paper on which to place the seeds  . Fold the strips to leave the seeds inside, moisten with a spray bottle and water, and  place the strips in the holes between the pallet boards  . Then cover with more substrate. This way, the pallet boards will not allow weeds to grow and the carrots will be able to grow undisturbed, larger and in greater numbers.  In 3 to 4 months, the carrots will be ready to harvest.

If the carrots are exposed to a large amount of sunlight, it is necessary to cover them with a cloth  to protect them from possible burns.  Be sure to harvest the carrots before they get too large,  otherwise they will become tough and stringy. Once harvested, carrots can be refrigerated or frozen for future use.
