Birthday chocolate cake with Smarties: The easy recipe

Ingredients for the cake:
– 2 Savarin baking tins in different sizes
– 600 g dark chocolate
– 400 g icing sugar
– 12 eggs
– 375 g butter
– 150 g flour
– 1 bag of walnuts
– 1 bag of pine nuts

For the icing and decoration:
– 200 g dark chocolate
– 4 tablespoons water
– 140 g icing sugar
– 1 bag of Smarties

Instructions:
1. Melt the butter and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat. Mix the egg yolks with the icing sugar until the mixture turns whitish.
2. Add flour, then the melted chocolate-butter mixture and finally the walnuts and pine nuts.
3. Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff. Gently fold the stiffly beaten egg whites into the previous mixture.
4. Grease the tins and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 45 minutes. Make sure that a knife inserted into the cake comes out clean to check if it is done.
5. Invert the cakes onto a large tray, side by side, and cut a piece off each cake to form the number 3.

To finish:
Prepare the icing by melting the chocolate, icing sugar and water over very low heat until the mixture is smooth. Spread the icing over the entire cake and decorate with Smarties.
