Title: A classic from Mexico: Chili con Carne recipe
Chili con carne is a hearty and delicious dish that originated in Mexico. It is a warming stew that boasts spicy flavors and a wealth of ingredients. This traditional dish has spread beyond Mexico’s borders over time and is now popular in many parts of the world. In this post, I will share an authentic chili con carne recipe that offers the perfect combination of meat, beans and spices.
### The ingredients:
To prepare chili con carne you need the following ingredients:
– 500g ground beef
– 2 cans (400g each) red beans
– 1 large onion, chopped
– 3 cloves garlic, finely chopped
– 2 red bell peppers, diced
– 2 cans (400g each) chopped tomatoes
– 2 tbsp tomato paste
– 2 tbsp olive oil
– 2 tsp ground cumin
– 2 tsp chili powder
– 1 tsp paprika
– 1 tsp ground oregano
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Fresh parsley or cilantro to garnish
– Optional: grated cheese, sour cream and avocado to serve
### Preparation:
1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan and sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
2. Add the ground beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and crumbly.
3. Add the chopped garlic, diced peppers and spices (cumin, chili powder, paprika, oregano). Sauté everything together for another 2-3 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
4. Add the chopped tomatoes and tomato paste to the pot and stir well. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat.
5. Add the drained red beans and mix well. Let the chili con carne simmer for about 30-40 minutes on a low heat so that the flavors can develop properly. Stir occasionally.
6. When the chili is ready, taste it and season with salt and pepper if necessary.
7. Serve the chili con carne hot in bowls. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or coriander. Serve with grated cheese, sour cream and avocado as side dishes.
### Tips and variations:
– For a spicier touch, you can also add a chopped jalapeño or a pinch of cayenne pepper.
– If you like it spicy, you can also use some Tabasco or another hot sauce.
– Instead of beef, you can also use ground pork or poultry.
– For a vegetarian version, you can replace the meat with more beans, such as black beans or kidney beans.
– Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated the next day, which often intensifies the flavor even more.
Chili con carne is a perfect dish for social occasions or simply for cozy evenings at home. With its rich flavor and easy preparation, it is a real classic that never fails to delight. Try this recipe and enjoy the taste of Mexico in your own kitchen! Enjoy!
