Indoor plants can delight you with flowers during the winter just as much as during the summer. All you need is to fertilize them with the right spices.

Houseplants are said to experience a period of dormancy during the winter. However, many times this is not true. High temperatures in homes often encourage them to grow and bloom. If you provide them with the right conditions, you will see that they will be even more beautiful than in summer. And you can support them by using common spices that you find in your kitchen. Plus, they only cost a few euros! It will definitely be cheaper than commercial fertilizers.

What kitchen spices can help plants?  Cinnamon will perfectly nourish plants. The ideal first means for fertilizing plants is cinnamon. Both Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) and Chinese cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia), also known as cassia, which is distinguished by having a slightly spicier flavor and a more intense aroma. Cinnamon contains many vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A, calcium, potassium, manganese, iron, zinc and magnesium.  How to use it?  Just mix it a little with the substrate.

However, you can also prepare a growth stimulator with cinnamon.

  • half a liter of rice water,
  • two tablespoons of cinnamon
  • and an aspirin tablet.

Rice water is effective in fertilizing plants and is also rich in valuable nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium. You only need to put the plants in this solution if you want them to root and you don’t have to do anything else.

Bay as fertilizer Bay is actually the dried leaf of the laurel bush or tree (Laurus nobilis). If you prepare a broth rich in vitamins and minerals, you will only benefit your plants. They will find in it, for example, calcium, magnesium or potassium. Preparing the broth is easy. Boil a liter of water and add two bay leaves. Then add half a teaspoon of sugar and mix.

Remove from the heat and let the broth rest. Dilute the cold solution with water in a 1:1 ratio. and you don’t have to do anything else, just pour it into a sprayer and apply it to the plants. By the way, did you know that laurel can also repel pests? Like parsley, garlic, mustard, thyme, mint and peppermint.
