DIY Bee-Safe Wasp Trap: How to Make Your Own Wasp Trap for Free 🐝

By Lilia

Dealing with wasps can be annoying, especially when enjoying outdoor dining. However, you can create your own wasp trap without harming beneficial bees in the process. 🐝

Here’s how to do it:

Recycle a plastic container: Start by finding an empty plastic container, which can serve as a great base for your wasp trap. Cut the top off to create a funnel-shaped opening. 🔄

Create a funnel: Cut a plastic bottle and place the funnel upside down inside the container. This creates a narrow entrance for wasps, making it easy for them to enter but difficult to escape. 🌀

Use a bittersweet attractant: Mix vinegar, sugar and salt to create an attractant. Wasps are attracted to the sweet and sour smell, while bees are not attracted to this combination. Avoid using honey, as it can attract bees to the trap. 🍯

Placement and maintenance: Keep the wasp trap out of the rain, as it can quickly fill with water. Place it in areas where wasps are commonly seen, but away from places where you will spend time outdoors. ☔

While this DIY wasp trap is effective, it’s important to note that it can also attract and trap beneficial insects like lacewings and hoverflies, which naturally fight aphids. Keep this in mind and use the trap wisely to minimize unintentional damage to beneficial insects
