How to grow young garlic at home

  1. Initial Preparation:
    • Start by selecting a head of garlic that is in good condition and free of disease.
    • Extract all the garlic cloves from the head.
  2. Passing with Chopsticks:
    • Take skewer sticks and pierce each garlic clove in half, leaving about 5 cloves per stick.
    • Place the sticks with the garlic in a glass of water, making sure they are all completely submerged.
    • Let soak for 12 hours.
  3. Beginning of the Germination Process:
    • After 12 hours, discard the water and place the sticks with the garlic in the glass.
    • Cover the glass with a towel and let it rest for 48 hours.
  4. Root Development:
    • After this period, you will notice that the garlic has developed roots.
    • Transfer the sticks with the garlic to a Tupperware container with a little water, making sure only the roots touch the water.
    • Change the water every 2-3 days to maintain a clean environment conducive to growth.
  5. Beginning of Shoots:
    • After about 5 days, you will start to see the first shoots emerging from the garlic.
  6. Growth and Care:
    • Continue changing the water every 2-3 days to provide your garlic with an optimal environment to grow.
    • After 15 days, your garlic will be full of roots and shoots.
  7. Harvest:
    • Let your garlic continue growing for 10 more days.
    • After this time, your young garlic will be ready to be consumed. In salads, they are delicious.
