Ingredients to make handmade incense burners

  • 2 cups of wood powder (sandalwood, cedar, or any aromatic wood)
  • 1/2 cup powdered charcoal
  • 1 tablespoon gum arabic (as a binder)
  • 1 tablespoon water (to dissolve gum arabic)
  • 1 tablespoon dried herbs or flowers (optional, to add texture and aroma)
  • 30-40 drops of essential oils (choose your favorite fragrances or combine to create a unique blend)
  • Bamboo palillos or sahumerio sticks
  • A mixing bowl
  • Parchment paper or wax paper

Procedure

  1. Crush dried herbs or flowers if you are using them, so they are smaller in size and blend better.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the wood dust, charcoal, and dried herbs (if using).
  3. In another small container, dissolve the gum arabic in a tablespoon of water. Add this mixture to the bowl with the dry ingredients. The gum arabic will act as a binder to hold the ingredients together.
  4. Add the drops of essential oils to the dry mixture. You can experiment with different combinations to achieve the desired aroma.
  5. Mix all the ingredients until you obtain a homogeneous mass. You can use your hands to make sure everything is well integrated.
  6. Take small portions of the mixture and form cones or cylinders around the bamboo sticks or incense sticks. Make sure to compact the mixture well around the stick.
  7. Place the formed sticks on parchment paper or wax paper to dry for at least 24 hours. This will allow the sticks to harden and hold their shape.
  8. Once the incense sticks are dry, store them in a cool, dry place until they are ready to use.
  9. When you are ready to use the incense, light the tip and let it burn for a few seconds. Then, blow out the flame and enjoy the aromatic smoke that comes out.

And there you have it! You now have homemade incense sticks with your personalized fragrances. Remember to adjust the amounts of essential oils and other ingredients according to your preferences. Experiment and enjoy your unique aromatic experience!
