Growing garlic with plastic bottles: Step-by-step guide
Growing garlic sprouts can be an interesting gardening experiment, especially if you are looking for an eco-friendly method that reuses plastic bottles. Here is a simple method for growing garlic sprouts using two plastic bottles of different sizes.
Materials:
- A 2 liter plastic bottle
- A 5 liter plastic bottle
- Garlic cloves
- Water
- Potting soil
Instructions:
- Preparation of the 2 liter bottle :
- Take a 2 liter plastic bottle and make several holes around the body.
- Insert the garlic cloves into these holes.
- Leave a portion intact at the bottom of the bottle, about 10 cm high.
- Fill this bottom section with water.
- Pot placement :
- Place the bottle in a pot filled with potting soil, making sure that only the 10cm section with water is buried in the soil.
- The section with the garlic cloves should be above the ground.
- Be sure to remove the cap from the bottle.
- Using the 5 liter bottle :
- Take the 5 liter bottle and cut off the base.
- Place it over the 2 liter bottle in the pot, acting as a greenhouse. Make sure the cap on the 5-liter bottle is closed to create a humid environment.
- Watering and waiting :
- Water the soil around the 2 liter bottle.
- Wait about 7-10 days. During this period, the garlic cloves will begin to sprout.
- Transplant :
- Once the garlic has sprouted enough, you can transplant it into the ground for continued growth.
