By Lesia

It is often mistreated by feet, wet by an inadvertently spilled liquid or stained by sweat rings: our mattress leads a hard life. In addition, it becomes a breeding ground for mites and bacteria that are not visible to the naked eye and are often harmful to our health. So many reasons to clean and disinfect your mattress regularly.

Sleeping on a clean and healthy mattress is essential and its cleaning is not difficult and does not necessarily require the intervention of a professional. Regular maintenance with natural products available at home can be enough which are also very effective and less expensive. To get rid of dust, stains, mites which are allergens causing health problems, it is important to act to clean and disinfect the mattress. For dry cleaning your bedding, here are 3 ways to do it naturally

Baking soda

Perfect for removing stains, deodorizing and disinfecting, baking soda or sodium bicarbonate is the ideal product. It is the ultimate multi-purpose ingredient since it can clean all surfaces in the house. To use it, sprinkle a sufficient amount of this white powder on the area to be treated or on the entire mattress and let the product act for 1 hour. Once this time has elapsed,  brush the entire surface with a soft-bristled brush  to dislodge the mites from the mattress using circular movements. Then vacuum the entire mattress to  remove dust, mites  and baking soda residue. For greater effectiveness and if you can, take the mattress out in the sun and sprinkle it with baking soda. The sun and the white powder will work better to exterminate bacteria as well as the little critters that invade your mattress. Finally, use the vacuum cleaner to remove excess baking soda.

Another way to do this is to mix 250g of baking soda with 5 drops of tea tree essential oil and sprinkle this mixture, which you have sieved, over the mattress. After an hour, vacuum and do the same on the other side of the mattress.

White vinegar

A star product in household cleaning, it must be believed that white vinegar has not stolen its reputation. At the table of disinfectants and antibacterials, is this white liquid that our grandmothers have always used to polish, disinfect, descale and shine all the surfaces of the house. In addition, it can be a good alternative to bleach, considered irritating to the respiratory tract. To take advantage of its benefits in cleaning the mattress and in particular to clean and remove the smell of pee, start by pouring white vinegar into a spray bottle and then spray this liquid all over the mattress. Then sprinkle baking soda so that it absorbs all the moisture but also to eliminate stains and bacteria. Let it sit for a few minutes before vacuuming.

The land of Sommières

For dry cleaning, Sommières earth is your best friend. It is a formidable stain remover for removing the most stubborn stains on clothing and all textiles. Sprinkle this product on the mattress and let it act for a few minutes. Brush the entire mattress in a circular motion with a clean, soft brush, then vacuum to perfect the cleaning of your bedding.

Other stain removers and cleaners such as hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, liquid soap such as Marseille soap or black soap, dishwashing liquid, soda crystals can act against textile stains. But these require wetting and moistening the mattress, and drying the mattress for hours in the sun, which is not always possible. In addition,  water, even if used in small quantities, can pass through the different components of the mattress and generate mold  that causes allergies and respiratory problems and many other inconveniences.
