By Lilias

When we throw away bananas, we should never throw away any part of them, because they could be worth a lot to our house. Here’s which one.

Each season has its fruits and often, we just have to wait for one of them to be able to savor our favorites and enjoy the flavor of our favorite fruit par excellence.

But there are some fruits that are found in the market all year round and are among the most popular and common, although some of them have origins totally different from where we live.

1. Bananas: Here’s why you should never throw them all away

Some of these fruits that we Italians love very much are bananas, very useful for our health because they are a source of potassium and can often be used in any type of recipe.

Originating from tropical regions, it has been a staple on the tables of our peninsula for many years and is almost never missing from homes, to the point of even being represented in some still lifes.

Often, due to its shape, it is associated with the male member and its name is used as a sexual allusion also following the song La Banana very popular in the 2000s.

In the market, we usually find yellow or green bananas depending on their ripeness, although it is always better, as experts advise, to consume those that are moderately ripe.

However, there are different types of bananas, including light blue bananas which, due to their ripeness, tend to have a vanilla flavor but are almost impossible to find in Italy.

On the other hand, in recent times in Italy it is possible to find red bananas much sweeter than normal bananas, even if their cost is high and is about three times higher than that of normal bananas.

2. The secret that few people know

The banana has also become very popular with children following its popularity thanks to the Minions characters, the servants of Despicable Me who are crazy about this fruit.

But not everyone knows that even if we only ingest the inner part of the fruit and throw away the skin, we are actually wasting something truly valuable that we should all use at home.

In fact, videos are circulating on the web explaining that once the banana is peeled, you have to keep the rigid part at the end which holds all the fruit together and let it dry.

However, before placing it in the sun, it is advisable to cut the stem and open it to see all the fibers which are removed and placed in a container exposed to the sun for a few hours.

What we will have is a set of banana fibers that will be very useful for our plants, since placing them on the ground inside the pot will act as an excellent fertilizer for our plants.

In this way, they will grow strong and vigorous not only by acquiring water but also the intrinsic properties of the banana fibers which, in contact with water and soil, will give strength to our plant.
