By Lesia

Growing vegetables at home requires patience and skill. Here’s a tip that will allow you to grow potatoes simply, at home, and save you a trip to the supermarket.

What you need:

  1. First of all, you will need a bag. You can use any bag, but it must be a large size.
  2. You will need 35 litres of compost. You will need to add compost to the bag as the potatoes start to grow. Prefer the compost to be a little damp for best results.
  3. The fertilization step is important, buy 45 grams of organic potato fertilizer that you will spread in the bag after placing the potatoes in it.
  4. Once you have gathered these elements, you will need 4 or 5 pre-sprouted potatoes. Indeed, pre-sprouted the tubers of this vegetable saves two to three weeks.

Here’s how to plant your pre-sprouted potatoes:

  1. Start by piercing the bottom of the bag before filling it with compost to a height of 10 cm.
  2. Place the pre-germinated potatoes on the surface, making sure to spread them out well with a distance of 20 to 40 cm between each plant.
  3. Spread the 45 grams of organic potato fertilizer evenly, making sure it does not touch the potatoes.
  4. Add 5cm to 15cm of compost to cover the potatoes. Because of the moisture in the compost, you can go without watering for a week.
  5. Once the potatoes start to sprout, you can unfold the edges of the bag and add more compost. Water if necessary, but don’t overwater.
  6. In a few weeks, the potatoes will sprout and reach about ten centimeters. Separate the seedlings carefully and cover them with compost. Let them grow, watering lightly.

For best results, the bag should be exposed to a sunny location. Also, it is advisable to start planting between March and April for better harvests.
