8 Effective Tips to Get Rid of Flies in the House

Flies, in addition to being annoying and irritating, also carry many bacteria that can contaminate our homes, and especially our food. In summer, with the heat, their proliferation accelerates. In fact, a female fly can lay between 400 and 600 eggs during her short life.

Houseflies are the most common flies found in our homes. In summer, the heat of our interiors attracts them and accentuates the odors that attract them, especially garbage and food.

1 – GERANIUM TO KEEP FLIES AWAY

A plant that flies don’t like: geranium, and especially lemon geranium. So don’t hesitate to multiply the pots in the windows, because in addition to chasing away flies, geraniums bring a real decorative touch! You can also try this trick with geranium essential oil. Mix 8 drops of this oil with 100 cl of water and spray the mixture throughout the house!

2 – MINT

Like basil, mint is an aromatic that flies don’t like. Place a few plants in pots that you can place on your windowsills. Otherwise, pick some leaves that you can place in bowls and renew regularly. Like basil, mint is an interesting solution, because it allows you to cook delicious meals at the same time!

3 – THE ONION

Onions are very useful for repelling flies. Cut one into slices and place them in bowls that you will distribute around the house. Don’t hesitate to make broths to place on the windowsills. The flies, put off by the smell, will not approach!

4 – BAKING SODA

Baking soda/water works pretty well too. Feel free to mix the two together before spraying with a diffuser.

Do you know what a fly and a vampire have in common? They both hate garlic. That’s good, because you’re going to take out a few cloves of garlic, peel them and boil them, filter the water and place your magic anti-fly potion on the windowsills. Garlic is a great natural remedy against flies. They won’t dare come into your house anymore!

6 – CLOVES

A well-known grandmother’s trick to keep flies away, cloves are extremely effective. Cut an onion, a lemon or an orange in half and stick cloves in each half, on the flesh side. Place them in strategic places in the house, and repeat the operation every three days.

7 – LAVENDER

Flies don’t like the smell of lavender. Don’t hesitate to place some around your home, whether in the form of essential oil, in small sachets, or in dried bouquets. It smells good and it also decorates your home.

8 – THE INEVITABLE WHITE VINEGAR

Versatile, use it as much as you can in your home. Clean your kitchen, windows or interior frames with it, and add it to water to wash floors. In short, the more you put on it, the more the smell will spread, much to the despair of the insects that had planned to invade your environment.

Otherwise, you can also boil white vinegar after having closed the doors and windows of the room, in the morning and evening.

Be careful, however, not to make a mistake. Use white vinegar. Indeed, cider vinegar, for example, is a delight for our flying enemies, its smell would attract them!
