How to remove ice from the refrigerator and defrost it effortlessly: just a few drops are needed

By Lilias

Defrosting your refrigerator with one of these alternative methods is easier and saves time. Here’s how.

Having  to defrost  your  refrigerator  is often a pain, so much so that we sometimes tend to postpone the operation  for as long as possible.  However, doing this  periodically is  very important  for at least two reasons. Firstly,  storing ice  in the refrigerator means that  it consumes more energy  . In addition, ice can  damage the food  in the refrigerator and  affect its preservation.  So what to do?

Defrosting  your refrigerator does not necessarily have to be a  long and tiring operation: there are alternative  and  faster  methods   . Let’s see what they are. Before you begin, however, remember that it is  very important to prepare the work area  and equip yourself to  do things safely.  To do this, be careful to  cover the floor  so as not to dirty it, and  turn off the refrigerator  . Also,  do not carry out  these operations when you are  alone  at home or  very tired  .

hair dryer method

Using  the hair dryer  to  melt ice  inside the refrigerator certainly  saves a lot of time  . This method allows you  to melt  larger  blocks of ice, so that you only have to scrape off  the residue. To do this, however, you should always be  careful  not to let the  hair dryer and its cord  come into contact with the ice  .

defrost the refrigerator

At the same time, it is important  to avoid pointing the  hot air at the same place  for a long time  , to avoid  accidents and damage  to the refrigerator.

Defrost the refrigerator with a hot spatula

This second method consists of  heating a  kitchen or other spatula by placing it on a  heat source  . At this point it will be enough  to stick it to the ice, which  will break down  with the heat. However, if you choose to try this method, it is very important to pay the  utmost attention  not to  burn yourself  , so  it is not recommended  to do it  when you are alone  in the house or are not sufficiently  awake and lucid  .

Pots full of hot water

Many of you may have already thought of it, but filling  the pots with hot water  and closing them in the refrigerator is an excellent solution to  speed up  the defrosting process,  removing  at least most of the ice. However, this method may take  longer  than others, depending on the  size  of your refrigerator and the  amount  of ice you need to melt. In addition,  the water  inside the pots after  about 10 minutes  tends to  cool down  while inside the refrigerator, so it needs to be  replaced  with other hot water. This could result in higher  water consumption.

use a fan

If you decide  to defrost your refrigerator in the summer  , you can take advantage of the  fan  on. Positioned  in front of the refrigerator  , in fact, the fan will send  warm air  inside,  melting  the ice. Again, this is a method that can be  slower  than other direct methods. In addition, it is advisable  to protect  the floor with  buckets or towels  to collect the water that will inevitably drip from the refrigerator as a result of the melting of the ice.

Melt ice with a vacuum cleaner

It may seem strange, but  the vacuum cleaner  is a useful ally when it comes  to defrosting the fridge  . Be careful, however, this method is only feasible if you use a vacuum cleaner  capable of sucking up liquids  . If that is your case, you can start  by blowing air  on the ice. Then, switch to  suction  and  remove  the water and ice residue.

Using a  vacuum cleaner  is similar to using a  hair dryer  , except that it is a little  safer  because there is no risk of putting an  electrical cable  in contact with the  ice  .

Defrost the refrigerator with a cloth and denatured alcohol

The last alternative technique to  defrost the refrigerator  in a  less tiring  and  faster way  involves the use of  denatured alcohol  . How to do it? Use a  cloth  to dip in  warm water  , then moisten it with  denatured alcohol  . Once in contact with  the ice  , the latter  will melt  quickly. This method works effectively when the  layer of ice  to be removed is  thin  , so  it is not advisable  to apply it to melt  very thick ice blocks.
