But it is actually possible to give your mattress a good sanitization, eliminate mites and stains with materials that you surely already have at home and in a short time. This way you can keep it in optimal condition and protect your rest and health.
You don’t need to use a vacuum cleaner to clean a mattress. You can do a thorough manual cleaning with household cleaners at least twice a year. Follow these simple steps to do it right.
Remove the sheets and any mattress covers and shake the mattress well to remove any debris that has accumulated on its surface.
Mix one tablespoon of laundry detergent with one quart of cold water and stir well to create plenty of suds.
Apply the foam to the mattress and use a soft sponge to scrub the stains.
Finally, dry the mattress, if possible, in the sun or in a well-ventilated room. You can use a hair dryer to speed up the process.
How to Clean Mattress Stains with Baking Soda
If you have a mattress that is not entirely new and there are moisture or dirt stains, you can use baking soda to remove them.
Mix 1 part baking soda with 2 parts cold water. Apply to the stain on the mattress and let it sit for 30 minutes.
Remove excess solution from the mattress with a damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly (preferably in the sun). Finally, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any baking soda residue.
How to Disinfect a Mattress with Vinegar
There are two methods to remove urine stains and bad odors: the first is the baking soda method that we described above, the second is the white vinegar method.
Dampen a clean cloth with water and liquid soap. Fill a bucket with 2 parts warm water and 1 part white vinegar, then rub the stained areas of the mattress with the cloth. Allow the mattress to dry thoroughly.
Vinegar helps prevent the formation of mold and bacteria, fighting bad odors.
