The magic of rue: the plant you should have at home.

By Lesia

Rue has always been used as a protective plant. In ancient Rome it was used as a medicinal plant and a cure for the evil eye. In Greece it was used to relieve pain and fight epidemics.

The male rue has large leaves and should be placed to the left of the front door of the house. The female is placed to the right of the front door and is distinguished by its small yellow flowers.

You can also place a branch tied with red ribbon in the door frame of your home to keep bad energies away forever.

But the “magic” of rue also applies to health: there are those who use its fresh leaves to speed up the healing of wounds and those who add its leaves to salads, soups or other healthy dishes.

Many people also ingest rue in the form of an infusion and it is tea that grandmothers recommend, although with some warnings: it should not be consumed by children or pregnant women.

The leaves of this shrub – essential for making tea – are very easy to obtain in herbalists. Rue can also grow in any garden and thrives in temperate or slightly cold climates. In summer it has small yellow flowers that can be incorporated into the preparation of tea.

To make the tea, you need two teaspoons of rue leaves (it can also contain dried flowers) and a cup of water. Boil the water in a container, remove from the heat and add the rue. Let it sit for eight minutes, strain to pour into a cup and drink.
