Make Your Home Smell Good Forever. Here Are 5 Natural Ways to Freshen Any Room

By Lesia

Many people face the problem of foul odor at home for various reasons. But fortunately, there are many solutions to get rid of this odor. By simply adopting some ideas and doing a few tricks, you can easily make your home smell natural.

Sure, you can use an air freshener, but these commercial air fresheners release a lot of toxic chemicals into the air (it’s worse than a foul odor). So, it’s better to get rid of these bad odors using safe natural methods.

So, whether you have guests coming over or you just want your house to smell amazing all the time, here’s what you can do to make your home smell naturally pleasant.

Throw Out the Trash
This is the most important thing you need to do before trying any of the programs below. That full trash can in your kitchen could be the reason your house smells bad. So, throw out the trash first.

Deodorize the Trash Can
Disposing of the trash alone won’t work because a foul odor can still linger. Just use baking soda.

Deodorize Carpets
Sprinkle baking soda on your carpets and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes.

Open the windows to let fresh air circulate
This is the easiest and most natural way to get rid of the smell. This will make your home smell nice and refreshing, but the problem is that you can’t always open the windows due to weather conditions or many other reasons.

Natural Spray
You can easily make this at home. All you need is a spray bottle, distilled water, a few drops of essential oil of your choice, and a teaspoon of baking soda. Make a mixture of your favorite essential oil (5-6 drops) and baking soda and pour it into a small spray bottle. Then fill the bottle with distilled water and shake it well. Whenever you smell something or want a refreshing smell anywhere in your home, just spray it. You can even use it on upholstery, fabrics, and carpets.

Vanilla Oven Scent
Simply heat 2-3 teaspoons of vanilla extract in your oven for about 10-15 minutes or until you start to smell the scent throughout your house. It won’t be as effective as the air freshener but it works pretty well.

Clean Your Sinks
Sprinkle about 1 small cup of baking soda on the sink and then pour 2 cups of vinegar on it. Let the sink sit like this for a few minutes. Then pour 2-3 liters of hot water down the sink. Your sink will no longer smell bad.

Just like baking soda, vinegar is also an amazing cleaner and deodorizer.

Oatmeal for Your Fridge
Simply place a bowl of regular oatmeal in your refrigerator and its scent will be pleasant. Just like baking soda, oatmeal also absorbs all the foul and stinky odors in your refrigerator.

Sunlight
The natural warmth of the sun will remove any musty smell from your mattress. In fact, it works on anything that smells musty as long as you can move it.

Nothing can be more natural than sunlight. The other benefit is that your bed will also be rid of any bugs if any.

Place Cotton Balls in Strategic Locations
Put a few drops of essential oils on cotton balls and keep them in various places around the house. You can place the cotton balls in your drawers, under your pillows, on furniture, or almost anywhere else in your house. This will make every corner of your house smell amazing.

You can easily revive the scent when it dies. Simply re-wet the cotton balls with essential oil to revive the scent. Easy!

Natural Purifiers
No, I don’t mean a natural spray or anything like that. The term natural purifier refers to certain plants.

Not only do they provide us with oxygen, but they also keep the air around us fresh by eliminating odors. Plants like peace lilies, parlor palms, golden pictures, etc. keep the house free from bad odors. So, get yourself some plants that
