Just add vinegar to the washing machine: an expensive secret
Table vinegar is indispensable in the arsenal of every housewife, because it can be used not only for cooking. This product perfectly cleans tiles, faucets and fittings, restores the natural shine, and, combined with soda, whitens the sink and cleans the pipes. I use vinegar for laundry and I am very pleased with the results.
It is an economical and harmless product, suitable for many fabrics and can also be used on children’s clothes. Why it is essential for washing things in the washing machine:
- Vinegar perfectly softens fabrics that do not absorb moisture well, so it is recommended to use it when you need to wash things made of thick fabric.
- I usually soak new things in water and vinegar. When combining light and dark fabrics in one “product”, it is very important that they do not lose their colour.
- With this universal product, it is possible to remove stains of different types: grease, sweat, fruit. Simply pour 50 ml of vinegar into the washing machine compartment.
- Vinegar is also extremely effective in removing cigarette odours. Simply add 100 ml of vinegar instead of rinse aid.
- Excellent bleach. Vinegar destroys all dirt molecules present on your clothes. Simply add vinegar to the laundry basket and restore its pure white colour.
- Vinegar helps to remove sweat stains from clothes. Prepare a solution of vinegar and rock salt and rub it on the stain. Leave it to act for a few minutes and then wash the garment as usual.
- Vinegar has an antistatic effect, which helps to remove “sticky” pet hair.
- In addition, vinegar is an excellent prevention against the formation of limescale in the washing machine. Once a month and per cycle, I add 2 cups of table vinegar to the drum or detergent compartment. To keep the rubber seal of your washing machine in good condition, the best way to clean it is with a damp cloth and vinegar.

Regularly using vinegar to clean your washing machine will not only give it a fresh smell, but also allow it to work without problems for a much longer period of time.
What not to use
It is better not to wash clothes and linens made of silk, lace, satin, velvet, chiffon and leather with vinegar. All these substances are very sensitive to acids and can change their structure.
