Hippeastrum – characteristics
Hippeastrum is a tropical plant belonging to the amaryllis family. It blooms in winter and is mainly grown in pots due to its sensitivity to cold soil temperatures. Its flowers are large and come in various colors, such as dark red, white, pink, and multi-colored. The leaves appear after flowering and are large and fleshy.

Zwartnica – varieties
Some outstanding varieties of Hippeastrum include Apple Blossom with white flowers and pink edges, Dancing Queen with red and white striped flowers, Red Lion with deep red flowers, and Rapido with scarlet red flowers.

Arborvitae – cultivation
Arborvitae is a decorative plant with straight stems and flowers at the top. It is easy to grow in pots with light, permeable soil. It needs a bright and warm location, regular watering without waterlogging, and fertilization during floral growth. It reproduces from adventitious bulbs that are separated during repotting.

Arborvitae – a period of rest
After flowering, Arborvitae enters a period of rest. To stimulate new flowering, it is crucial to provide a period of “winter sleep”. This involves suspending watering and fertilization, drying the plant and placing it in a cool environment (10°C) for 6 to 8 weeks. It is then repotted and gradually watered again to induce growth and flowering again.
