Dull taps, the nightmare of many homes: how to clean them to make them shine again

Dull taps can be a real eyesore! Here’s how to get them shining again:

1. Gather Your Supplies:

  • Soft cloths: Microfiber cloths are ideal, but soft cotton rags will also work.
  • Warm water:

  • White vinegar:
  • Baking soda (optional):
  • Old toothbrush (optional): For hard-to-reach areas

2. Clean the Taps:

  • Warm soapy water: Mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water in a bowl.
  • Wipe down: Dip a cloth in the soapy water and gently wipe down all surfaces of the taps.
  • Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

3. Tackle Limescale:

  • Vinegar solution: If you have hard water, mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
  • Apply: Spray the vinegar solution onto the taps and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
  • Scrub: Gently scrub with a soft cloth or an old toothbrush.
  • Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

4. Remove Stubborn Stains:

  • Rinse thoroughly: Rinse the taps again with clean water.

5. Dry and Polish:

  • Dry completely: Dry the taps thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth to prevent water spots.
  • Polish (optional): For an extra shine, you can use a metal polish specifically designed for your type of faucet finish.

  • Avoid abrasive cleaners: Avoid using abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or harsh chemicals, as these can scratch the finish.
