By Lesia

The 5-Spoon Cake is a classic for a reason! It’s incredibly simple, moist, and delicious. Here’s a basic recipe, with some variations to make it the best chocolate cake you’ve ever had:

Basic 5-Spoon Chocolate Cake Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 5 tablespoons sugar
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted butter for extra richness)
  • 5 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Prep: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a small baking pan (around 8×8 inches or a small round cake pan).
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, oil (or butter), and egg.
  4. Combine: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Don’t overmix.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. 6. Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan before frosting or serving.

Tips for the Best Chocolate Cake:

  • Quality Cocoa: Use high-quality unsweetened cocoa powder for a richer chocolate flavor.
  • Melted Butter: Substitute melted butter for the oil for a more decadent cake.
  • Hot Liquid: Replace the milk with hot coffee or hot water for a deeper chocolate flavor and a moister cake.
  • Vanilla Extract: Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the wet ingredients for extra flavor.
  • Sour Cream/Yogurt: Replace 1-2 tablespoons of the milk with sour cream or plain yogurt for a tangier, moister cake.
  • Chocolate Chips: Stir in a handful of chocolate chips for extra chocolatey goodness.
  • Frosting: A simple chocolate ganache, buttercream, or even a dusting of powdered sugar can elevate this cake.
  • Moisture: This cake is known for its moisture, but to ensure it stays that way, don’t overbake.
  • Sifting: Sift the dry ingredients to prevent lumps.

Chocolate Ganache Frosting (Simple):

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  1. Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to simmer.
  2. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips and let it sit for a few minutes.
  3. Whisk until smooth and glossy.
  4. Let it cool slightly before frosting the cake.

Enjoy your melt-in-your-mouth 5-Spoon Chocolate Cake!
