Hot Dog Buns: The Secret to Making Them Perfect!
Hot dog buns are fluffy, light sausage-shaped buns made from flour, milk, eggs, sugar and yeast. They’re baked until golden and fluffy, and are the perfect choice for wrapping grilled hot dogs for a quick lunch or picnic. They can also be stuffed with other fillings of your choice for a variety of meals.
Ingredients
- 240 ml (1 cup) hot milk
- 20g (2 tbsp) sugar
- 1 egg
- 7 g (1 ½ tsp) dry yeast
- 440 g (3 1/2 cups) all-purpose flour
- 2 g (½ tsp) salt
- 30g (2 tbsp) soft butter
Preparation
- Whisk the hot milk with the sugar, egg and salt. Sprinkle with dry yeast and whisk to combine.
- Add the sifted flour to the liquid and knead until smooth.
- Knead the softened butter into the dough and form a ball.
- Reserve the ball so that it doubles in volume (about 1 hour).
- Cut the dough into 10 pieces and roll each into a hot dog bun as shown in the video. Set the buns aside until they have doubled in size (about 30 minutes).
- Brush hot dog buns with beaten egg and bake at 180°C/350°F for 20 minutes.
