How to plant avocados at home, starting from a seed, to have an infinite supply
Avocado is a delicious and irresistible food, versatile enough to be added to a myriad of preparations, or eaten alone (add a spoonful of olive and a pinch of salt, delicious!) . However, being a tropical vegetable, it is often difficult to find it in the supermarket, and its cost can be high.
Below we explain how to plant avocado at home , starting from its seed. This is a very simple operation, which can save us a lot of money. Not to mention the satisfaction of eating a self-produced vegetable.
The first thing to do is extract the seed from the avocado , without cutting or breaking it. Once the seed has been washed, to eliminate any residue of the plant, and it has been carefully dried, it is necessary to proceed with the preparation of the soil.
Some seeds are triangular in shape, while others are more spherical. But they all have a lower part (from which the roots will emerge) and an upper part. It is important to determine the end from which the roots will emerge, as this is the end that must be immersed in the water.
Insert some toothpicks on the sides of the seed, and place it in a glass of water (the lower part must be completely submerged, see photo).
Germinate the seed for 3-6 weeks. Once this period has passed, a shoot will have grown on the upper part of the seed, and roots on the lower part.
When the stem reaches a height of about 15-20 centimeters, cut it in half to encourage the growth of a new one. Finally, move the plant to a larger pot, making a hole in the center of the pot to place the plant.
