Discover these 7 Foods You Should Never Freeze
Most foods can be frozen without much hassle and this practice helps to combat food waste. However, some fruits, vegetables or other foods do not respond as well to such cold temperatures. We have made a list for you of these 7 foods not to put in the freezer.
1 – BREAD
- Some will say that it is possible to freeze bread so as not to spoil it and always have more if needed.
- However, defrosting is far from being bread’s best friend: it softens, loses its flavor, its crispness and absorbs all the odors of food stored in the freezer.
- Nothing beats good fresh bread from the baker, with a golden crust and crispy crumb.
2 – TOMATOES
Same thing for tomatoes, very juicy, which are only suitable for this preservation technique if they are cooked.
3 – YOGURT AND CHEESES
Freezing yogurt does not kill its lactic ferments, but once thawed, this product loses its smoothness and becomes grainy . Storing soft cheeses in the freezer will give a similar result to storing milk.
4 – POTATOES
It’s the same thing as for the refrigerator: potatoes, very rich in starch, do not tolerate cold well. Placing raw potatoes in a freezer will accelerate their aging, they will darken and lose their texture. You can, however, place potato dishes in the freezer , provided they have been cooked. This rule applies to other tubers and root vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, parsnips, etc.
5 – EGGS
- Put the eggs in the freezer? Especially not. This is an aberration! Yet you are reproducing a pattern that you know. . It’s often a question of tradition: your parents put them in the fridge, your grandparents too, so you repeat the same actions. However, ask yourself the question!
- Eggs are not part of the fresh sections of supermarkets. Therefore, there is no need to keep them in the freezer at home either, for several reasons. The cold risks bursting the shell if you freeze them intact as soon as you get back from shopping! Hello damage! As for hard-boiled eggs, again, this is not a very good idea, they will be a bit rubbery when you want to eat them. Eat fresh eggs or feel free to make cakes.
6 – WATERMELON AND MELON
Very rich in water, these fruits are not suitable for freezing. Once defrosted, they may no longer have the same flavor or even no flavor at all.
7 – MILK
Unfortunately, milk stored in the freezer can separate into chunks and watery parts when thawed. It will be safe to eat, but it’s not exactly the best consistency to add to your morning cereal or coffee.
