Clean Your Pot and Remove Stubborn Stains
Cooking is not an easy exercise. Sometimes an unexpected event or lack of attention causes you to forget your dish on the stove long enough to spoil your food and burn your pan. Overcooked food is certainly no longer edible, but you can salvage your pan! We give you our tips for cleaning your burnt pan.
1 – WOOD ASH TO CLEAN YOUR POT
Do you have a fireplace and therefore you keep ashes available for laundry or to spread in the garden? Well! know that it can also help you get back your burnt covered utensil. Like cleaning the fireplace glass, you can soak your sponge in sifted ash and rub. Otherwise, put a little in the pan and add a splash of hot water and boil it for a while. After these operations, rinse well with clean water and give your pot a wipe with a sponge. Note that you can possibly replace it with clay!
2 – CITRIC ACID
Of natural origin, citric acid is an active ingredient naturally present in lemon. Very useful as a descaling agent, but also for removing rust from metal or dissolving moss on terrace tiles, citric acid is an ecological household product because it is 100% biodegradable! You can buy it in powder form commercially… or use lemon juice if you have it in the fruit basket in your kitchen.
To remove stains embedded in the bottom of your burnt pan (especially if it is cast iron or stainless steel), pour 2 tablespoons of citric acid into it and cover with boiling water. Then let the acid act for a few minutes. You can then scrape with a wooden spatula, or using a sponge to remove everything. Then rinse the pan several times with plenty of water.
Warning: although natural and ecological, citric acid should not be used on enamel or aluminum.
3 – WHITE VINEGAR
White vinegar is an economical and ecological household essential: it disinfects, deodorizes, descales, cleans. It is a product that is perfect for cleaning a pan whose bottom has burned. Here’s how to do it:
- Start by pouring a little white vinegar into your saucepan.
- Heat the pan for two minutes over low heat.
- Turn off the heat when the vinegar comes to a boil, and wait until the vinegar has cooled to scrub the bottom with a sponge. The encrusted residues will come off without difficulty, and your pan will be like new!
4 – CLEAN A BURNED PAN WITH BAKING SODA
Sprinkle the bottom of the pan with baking soda.
Cover the baking soda with water by about 2 cm and bring to the boil.
After boiling, remove the pan from the heat and wait a few minutes for the product to act.
Rub with a sponge then clean your pan as you usually do.
5 – CHEMICAL YEAST
You can also scrub the burnt and dirty residue with a little baking powder. Sprinkle a little on the surface to be treated, spray a little water, then leave to act for a good ten minutes. Then rub with a good sponge soaked in water and that’s it!
6 – COARSE SALT AND ALUMINUM PAPER
For pots and pans, this tip allows you to remove dirt without damaging the equipment. To do this, you will need a tablespoon of coarse salt and aluminum foil. Pour the coarse salt into the bottom of the pan and let it sit for a few minutes. Then form a ball with aluminum foil and rub the bottom of the pan, especially the burnt parts. Rinse and clean with hot water and dishwashing liquid then rinse again. You will be surprised at the result.
